The U.S. Navy Could Have Shot Down A Russian Jet

(CNN)-America's top diplomat condemned a close encounter between Russian fighter jets and a U.S. Navy destroyer, saying his nation's military could have opened fire under the rules of engagement.
Secretary of State John Kerry described Russia's action as "reckless and provocative."
Initial reports indicate two encounters in the Baltic Sea between the Navy missile destroyer USS Donald Cook and two Russian jets. In one of the incidents Tuesday night in international waters, a Russian jet flew within 75 feet of the ship.
"It's unprofessional and under the rules of engagement that could have been a shot down, so people need to understand that this is serious business and the United States is not going to be intimidated in high seas," he told CNN en EspaƱol.

Congratulation's America! We're officially second place. Two Russian jets fly in pissing distance of a destroyer, but its okay because we could have shot them down? Why the fuck didn't you? I get that nothing really happened but isn't the fact that Russia knows that they can do this a bit concerning? Putin is just toying with us at this point. The Kremlin's entertainment for the day was sick (or killed), and Putin's like "Ehh... fuck it! I know what will be fun. Let's fuck with the American's for a little bit." Russia knows that we won't do shit. They can't fly over Turkey without getting shot down, but 75 feet from an American WARSHIP results in verbal outrage. That has to be a joke. We remind them we could have done something, and that we aren't intimidated. You know what's a pretty good reminder of those rules of engagement? Two Russian jets burning in the ocean. Because right now, I think we are intimidated. I wasn't the biggest kid in high school so I can tell you from experience that the first thing you say to someone who scares the shit out of you is that you're not scared of them.
God bless our armed forces. So, you're saying you want to stick me on a ship and play chicken with Russian fighter jets? No fucking chance. Because Obama won't even let me use those big guns to shoot them down. At the very least put one across their bow, show them that you're awake and the guns work. Look, I'm no expert but I'm pretty sure that if the rules of engagement allow you to shoot someone, it's a pretty good hint that you probably should.
